Geography
Kalevalsky municipal district is located in the north-western part of the Republic of Karelia, bordered by the Loukhsky, Kemsky, Muezersky, Belomorsky districts of the Republic of Karelia, the territory of the Kostomuksha urban district and the Kainuu region of Finland (the western border of the district). Date of formation— August 29, 1927.
Kalevalsky district belongs to the regions of the Far North, is part of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation
